Kick-off at the Marktoberdorf weekly market and in the Sparkasse
To mark the start of the Musica Sacra International festival from 22 to 26 May 2026, there will once again be a traditional singing performance at the weekly market and in the Sparkasse lobby in Marktoberdorf. On Friday, 22 May, from 11 am, the singing of Le Chant sur la Lowé from Gabon will ring out in the centre of the Marktoberdorf weekly market. Afterwards, at around 11.30 am, the African choir will sing in the lobby of the Sparkasse Marktoberdorf. In the event of bad weather, the performance on the market square will be cancelled and will take place only at the Sparkasse Marktoberdorf.
Le Chant sur la Lowé from Gabon is a mixed choir of around thirty members, founded in 1990. Its mission is to promote high-quality choral performances beyond the traditional church setting and to reach a secular audience in Gabon and beyond. It also aims to bring Gabon’s musical heritage to the world by performing a wide range of Gabonese folk songs in all the languages of Gabon. The group’s authenticity is reflected in its unique musical pieces, which originate from the heart of the equatorial rainforest, as well as in its costumes, jewellery and choreography, which draw on Gabon’s rich cultural heritage.
