"What do you believe in?" - Reading series for preschoolers and children of primary school age

What does the Jewish festival of Passover mean? Why don't people eat anything at Ramadan? And is there only sugar at Eid? These and other questions are answered in a child-friendly way in the "What do you believe in?" reading series for pre-school and primary school children. As part of the educational program "Tolerance goes to school", Musica Sacra International visits kindergartens and elementary school before the actual festival at Pentecost.

Together with the Marktoberdorf public library, MODfestivals organizes readings in which age-appropriate stories are read to children, the children talk about what they have heard, sing, play and do handicrafts. Schools can choose between two themes to suit the time of year: The Jewish festival of Passover or the Muslim fasting period of Ramadan followed by Eid. The readings have so far taken place in various classes and groups at St. Martin Marktoberdorf elementary school, Pforzen elementary school and the Adalbert Stifter kindergarten in Marktoberdorf."In times when anti-Semitism is on the rise and at the same time many refugees and people with a migration background are living in Germany, it is very important to us to sensitize children of kindergarten and primary school age to cultural and religious similarities and differences," says Ramona Wegenast, Managing Director of Musica Sacra International. The "Toleranz macht Schule" program was launched in 2006 as a complementary measure to "Musica Sacra International". The core aim of the project is to teach children and young people about the five world religions, as well as a sense of and respect for other cultures. In today's world, it is becoming increasingly important to break down prejudices and openly confront the supposedly foreign. In times of globalization, children and young people in particular need a good foundation of knowledge in order to understand and classify their own culture and religion.
