Sing with the festival choir of Musica Sacra International

Sing with the festival choir of Musica Sacra International

It will soon be time again: the Musica Sacra International festival is already in the starting blocks and will take place regularly after the pandemic-related online and hybrid editions. Over Whitsun from 17 to 21 May 2024, top-class musicians will meet in Marktoberdorf as part of the interfaith festival to give concerts together. But concerts are not the only thing on the programme. People also meet up to sing together, discuss, attend workshops and take part in morning yoga and various dialogue sessions. People meet on an international level to engage in intensive dialogue. Encounters that are more important than ever in this day and age.

Would you like to experience the Musica Sacra International festival up close as a singer in the festival choir? MODfestivals invites all singing enthusiasts to actively accompany and help shape the festival: Sharing the fun of singing with others and discovering new things, combining leisure and further education, listening to sacred music from several religions and performing it yourself is possible for all interested parties by participating in the festival choir.

Over four days (18-21.5.24), the festival choir will spend the afternoons rehearsing a programme consisting of pieces from different sacred traditions: the Verse of Light in a setting by Volkan Akkoc, a spiritual and an improvisation, which will be performed together with several of the festival's ensembles. The highlight is the rehearsal and première of the commissioned composition. Swedish composer Agneta Sköld has set a poem by Bengali philosopher Rabindranath Tagore to music especially for Musica Sacra International. The pieces will be performed in the final concert of the festival on 22 May 2024 in the Dreifaltigkeitskirche in Kaufbeuren. The award-winning Turkish choir Rezonans from Istanbul will serve as the studio choir. The festival choir will be conducted by the renowned Swedish conductor Gary Graden, who has already taken part in the Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition with his choir and as a juror. Festival choir participants also have the opportunity to purchase a discounted festival pass.

Registration for the festival choir is possible online at www.musica-sacra-international.org. Concert tickets are available at all Eventim advance booking offices, the Eselsohr bookshop in Marktoberdorf, the service centres of the Allgäuer Zeitung newspaper and at www.musica-sacra-international.org.
