Marktoberdorf primary school children explore the mosque
How do you actually pray in a mosque? Why do Muslims do it that way and why do you have to take off your shoes? These and other questions were answered for the children during the tour of the mosque. Musica Sacra International is about to open and will once again bring international flair to the city and the entire Allgäu region alongside music from the world's major religions.
However, mosque tours for primary school children were already carried out in advance as part of the educational program "Tolerance goes to school". Children from the Thalhofen elementary school and the Adalbert-Stifter elementary school in Marktoberdorf explored the Marktoberdorf mosque with great curiosity. Many of them had never been to a mosque before and were full of curiosity as they took off their shoes on entering the mosque and found the soft carpet "just really cool".
The "Tolerance goes to school" program was launched in 2006 as an accompanying measure to "Musica Sacra International". The core aim of the project is to teach children and young people about the five world religions, as well as a sense of and respect for other cultures. In today's world, it is becoming increasingly important to break down prejudices and openly confront the supposedly foreign. In times of globalization, children and young people in particular need a good foundation of knowledge in order to understand and classify their own culture and religion.
In addition to the "Tolerance goes to school" projects "Discover the rhythm of India" and "What do you believe in? - Reading series for pre-school and primary school children", this educational project also aims to make primary school children aware of different religions, customs and lifestyles.
